One of my patients stopped by with a necklace she’d made for me. She called me her angel and said she could never thank me enough for just listening because, for her, it’s the best medicine. I am infinitely grateful for my job, that even when the government has come to a screeching halt, when my landlady judges me for my rubbish-to-recycling ratio, when I haven’t showered as recently as a person should, and when I just flat out don’t have the tools to turn a patient’s situation around, I’m privileged enough to show up someplace every day where I get to be kind and gentle to others.
